Force Protection Condition (FPCON)

Force Protection Condition (FPCON) is the Department of Defense’s standardized system for signaling and responding to threat levels against installations and personnel. It sets a named level, and each level carries its own required security posture.

We use FPCON on Panther Den for the same reason the real DoD does: it’s a compact, doctrinally accurate way to communicate the campaign’s current threat environment without a full briefing every sortie. Set the FPCON and every pilot instantly knows how tight ground security should be, how aggressive enemy activity and air defenses are likely to be, and how the base is postured — it lets us dial the theater’s tempo up or down in a way that mirrors real-world procedure instead of an arbitrary difficulty setting, and keeps the intelligence-shop vocabulary consistent across the whole community.

  • FPCON NORMAL — Applies when a general global threat of possible terrorist activity exists and warrants a routine security posture.
  • FPCON ALPHA — Occurs when there is an increased general threat of possible terrorist activity against personnel or facilities; the nature and extent of the threat are unpredictable.
  • FPCON BRAVO — Applies when an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists.
  • FPCON CHARLIE — Applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely. 100% ID card check required.
  • FPCON DELTA — Applies in the immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when intelligence has been received that terrorist action against a specific location or person is imminent. 100% ID card check required.
